Engineering Services Exam Pattern

The Examination will be conducted in two parts. Part I, which is the written Examination, will comprise two sections. Section I will have only objective types of questions and Section II will have conventional papers. Both Sections will cover the entire syllabus of the relevant engineering disciplines - Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. The standard and syllabi prescribed for these papers are given in Schedule to the Appendix.

Part I will have a General Ability Test having Part A (General English) and Part B (General Studies). There will be two objective type papers from the Subject concerned (Civil /Mechanical /Electrical / Electronics & Telecommunication). All three papers are of two hours duration and carry 200 marks each.

For objective type Questions, there will be four alternatives to every question. One third (0.33) of the marks assigned to a question will be deducted as penalty, for each question for which a wrong answer has been given.

Section II will have 2 Conventional Papers in the subject concerned (Civil /Mechanical /Electrical / Electronics & Telecommunication) each of 3 hours duration and carrying 200 marks. Total marks for Part I is 1000.

The Commission will fix minimum qualifying marks in any or all the papers of the examination. The Objective Type papers of the Examination will be evaluated first and evaluation of the Conventional Type Papers will be done only in respect of those candidates who obtain the minimum qualifying marks in Objective Types Papers, as fixed by the Commission.

Part II is the Personality test carrying a maximum of 200 marks for those who qualify on the basis of the written examination.
