Person with Disabilities (PWD) Scheme

In accordance with “National Policy on Education – 1986” and “The Persons With Disabilities Act – 1995”, the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, in the year 2001 started a Centrally Sponsored Scheme for integrating the persons with disabilities in the mainstream of technical and vocational education so as to bridge the gap in the facilities currently available for training the PWD’s. Fifty Polytechnics have been selected across the country to introduce technical, vocational and skill development programmes for persons with disabilities. The scheme is targeted to benefit every year about 1250 students with disabilities in Diploma Level Courses and about 5000 such candidates through short duration skill development training programmes.
