Person with Disabilities (PWD) Scheme

In accordance with "National Policy on Education - 1986" and "The Persons With Disabilities Act - 1995", the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, in the year 2001 started a Centrally Sponsored Scheme for integrating the persons with disabilities in the mainstream of technical and vocational education so as to bridge the gap in the facilities currently available for training the PWD's. Fifty Polytechnics have been selected across the country to introduce technical, vocational and skill development programmes for persons with disabilities. The scheme is targeted to benefit every year about 1250 students with disabilities in Diploma Level Courses and about 5000 such candidates through short duration skill development training programmes.

IMPLEMENTATION OF PWD SCHEME AT KASHMIR GOVERNMENT POLYTECHNIC, GOGJI BAGH, SRINAGAR.

Kashmir Government Polytechnic, Srinagar is one of the Polytechnic among 50 Institutes in the country under MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. New Delhi) which imparts Vocational and Technical Education to Persons with Disabilities (PWD). The Polytechnic has introduced the scheme from the year 2001-2002.

Under this Scheme, the Institute is providing Formal as well as Non-Formal Vocational and Technical Education to Persons with Disabilities. These programmes are aimed at promoting services for the people with disabilities so that they are encouraged to become financially independent and productive members through opportunities in education, vocational and technical training, medical and socio-economic rehabilitation.

Formal Programmes

Diploma Programmes : (Duration 3 Years) Educational Qualifications: 10th Pass. Number of seats: 25 each year.(5 in each branch of Engg)

  • ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING
  • ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING
  • COMPUTER ENGINEERING

Non Formal Programmes

Vocational Skill Developmental Training Programmes Duration: 3/6 months Number of Seats: 100 every year Age:- No Bar Educational Qualifications: No Bar barring a few courses
