DU Global Business Foundation Skills
To bridge the gap between academics and industry, Delhi University is introducing a course in global business foundation skills. The curriculum for which has been framed by different multinational companies. DU’s Institute of Lifelong Learning (ILLL) is tying up with NASSCOM for the course which will start from the new academic session.
The course will be open to all students enrolled with DU, but those interested will have to sit for an entrance test. The course will be offered at five centres — SGTB Khalsa College, Sri Venkateshwara College, Maitreyi College, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College and Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies — in the pilot run. ‘‘We will hold a diagnostic test for students interested in the course. There will be 25 seats at each centre. We are going to sign an MoU with NASSCOM this month to start the course,’’ said ILLL director professor A K Bakhshi.
Professor Bakhshi said that during past interactions with the industry, many companies mentioned that students from DU, who joined work after college, often lacked skills required in the industry. ‘‘So we met with representatives of different multinational companies and they offered to develop a curriculum to impart business skills to our students,’’ Bakhshi said. The course will have a major focus on industry awareness, communication skills, customer management and cultural.
The course will be divided into two parts of 60 hours each — from August to November and January to March. It will be conducted in the classroom as well as online. The course fee will be around Rs 4,000. However, the discussions on the quantum fee are still going on. Though the curriculum has been made by the industry, it will be taught by the faculty from various DU colleges.
