How is Centum U - Institute of Management & Creative Studies going to be different from the institutes that already exist?
An initiative of Centum Learning — a Bharti Associate company — it inherits credibility. Besides, Centum Learning already has experience in the learning and development sector. We work with several clients across the globe and have received the Gold Award for ‘Excellence in Training’ at the World HRD Congress, 2010. Also, our industry-connect is likely to benefit students. We are leveraging our experience in developing an industry-oriented curriculum, deploying interactive methodology, providing opportunities to students to interact with industry stalwarts and to facilitate quality internships and placements. Students would obtain UG and PG degrees from the University of London External System by studying at Centum U. They could also pursue programmes in Media and Entertainment or postgraduate programmes in Management.
What is the core philosophy that would shape Centum U?
With the establishment of Centum U, we are taking a step forward to change the way India studies. We would ensure that every aspect (starting from curriculum, delivery, learning environment) at Centum U reflect this change. Modernising education in a country like ours demands convergence of professional skills and formal education. It means providing a global curriculum and a 360 degree learning experience. We hope this will bridge the ever-widening talent gap in the burgeoning service sector in India.
How would you translate this philosophy into reality?
We shall draw upon our core strengths to turn it into a reality. First, due to our extensive experience in developing class-learningcontent and expertise in delivery, we shall ensure that specialised faculty members from leading institutes adopt advanced means to facilitate learning. Faculty members would also undergo rigorous training. Besides, regular interactions with industry practitioners, corporate CEOs will provide valuable insights to our students at regular intervals. Learning through case studies, workplace projects, internships at leading corporates and emphasis on personality development will form significant part of the academic experience at Centum U. Besides, students will get adequate opportunity to gain from other corporate initiatives planned at Centum U — social responsibility programmes, Corporate Scholar Programme, Centum Incubation Fund, Bharti Foundation Scholarships, among others.
What is Centum U Incubation Fund?
Under this initiative, students will get an opportunity to submit an innovative idea along with a business plan. These plans would be evaluated on the basis of innovativeness, business potential and scalability by a selection committee. Two-three business plans would receive seed funding and professional input to help launch select business ideas every year.
Would you elaborate on the Bharti Foundation scholarship?
Bharti Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Bharti Enterprises. The scholarship would be provided to deserving students on meritcum-means basis. It is meant for students studying undergraduate programmes at Centum U and would help create future leaders. Underprivileged students, SC/ST and women-candidates would be encouraged to apply for the scholarship.
